Canada's Worst Politicians of 2009

From the Wasaga Sun:

What do Prime Minister Steven Harper, Springwater mayor Tony Guergis and Afghanistan president Hamid Karzai have in common?

They all made the Creemore-based Mad River Institute for Political Studies’ list of Worst Politicians of 2009.

Springwater mayor Tony Guergis, the Warden of Simcoe County until he stepped down at the end of his term in December 2009, was named the Worst Municipal Councillor.

Guergis is the brother of Con MP Helena Guergis.

Ignatieff made the list “for failing to make his party the real Official Opposition,” the institute said, adding that early “in the year he had his Liberals simply back Conservative actions while criticizing but not offering alternatives.”

With respect to Canadian politics there are a handful of issues that are of utmost importance to the people of Canada. In 2009, there are five issues dominate political discoursein the country. These issues are seen as important by most people in virtually all parts of the great white north.

The Canada 2006 Census counted a total population of 31,612,897, an increase of 5.4 percent since 2001.[152] Population in Canada increased from 1990 to 2008 with 5.6 million and 20.4 % growth in population compared to 21,7 % growth in the USA and 31.2 % growth in Mexico. According to the OECD/World Bank population statistics between 1990–2008 the world population growth was 27 % and 1,423 million persons.[153] Population growth is from immigration and, to a lesser extent, natural growth. About four-fifths of Canada's population lives within 150 kilometres (93 mi) of the United States border.[154] The majority of Canadians (approximately 80%) live in urban areas concentrated in the Quebec City – Windsor Corridor, the BC Lower Mainland, and the Calgary–Edmonton Corridor in Alberta.[155] In common with many other developed countries, Canada is experiencing a demographic shift towards an older population, with more retirees and fewer people of working age. In 2006, the average age of the population was 39.5 years.
